Forest Hills Open Space Plan
Forest Hills, Tennessee (2008)

The City of Forest Hills is an affluent bedroom community to Nashville, and it is known for its scenic rolling topographic and its winding roads shaded by dense tree canopies. Concerned that future growth might undermine their unique character, they commissioned an open space plan to craft a detailed strategy.

The City hired Cincinnati-based McBride Dale Clarion to lead the process, and The Walker Collaborative (TWC) was employed to support Clarion. In addition to participating in meetings and providing recommendations for all facets of the project, TWC focused on a series of case study communities to evaluate the success of their open space preservation tools. Using this plan as a guide, the City is now revising its zoning and other planning policies to incorporate the document’s recommendations.
